Letterpress PLAY is a south Austin letterpress design studio that makes zero waste, paper toys, cards, posters and garments on beautiful, antique presses.  While we are always on the lookout for people who love making things, we are currently looking to fill the positions listed below. Full-Time Retail Manager or Assistant Manager - Austin, Texas 

Our creative, upscale boutique Letterpress PLAY is looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented customer service professional to be our next Assistant Manager.  The Assistant Store Manager will support the Store Manager in the daily business operations of the store including training and supervising employees, interacting with customers to ensure that our guests have a wonderful experience at our property, merchandising, managing inventory and handling any other task assigned by the store manager.

Our ideal candidate has two or more years in retail management.

Assistant Manager Responsibilities

  • Assist Store Manager with the day-to-day operations of the store
  • Ensure high levels of customers satisfaction through excellent service
  • Maintain outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards
  • Help deal with all issues that arise from staff or customers   (complaints, grievances etc.)
  • Report on buying trends, customer needs etc.
  • Work with Marketing Team to help organize special promotions, displays and events
  • Assist Manager with store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees.
  • Helps meet sales goals by training, motivating sales staff
  • Merchandise check-in, and ticketing
  • Ecommerce order fulfilment and shipping
  • Inventory packaging
  • Be a shining example of well behavior and high performance
  • Maintain high store standards and foster a positive environment.
  • Additional assistant store manager duties as needed

Fall 2024 Production Intern - Austin, Texas 


  • Assist in all aspects of production and organization within a working letterpress printing studio.
  • Collaborate with the Master Printer and Creative Director on handmade products using antique printing equipment.
  • Perform tasks such as packaging products, sorting metal type, block printing, linoleum carving, and fabric dyeing.
  • Engage in sustained physical activity, including standing, lifting heavy objects, and repetitive actions.
  • Be open to cross-departmental collaboration and occasional assistance in other areas as needed.


  • Education or experience in fine or commercial arts.
  • Strong attention to detail, with an ability to discern nuances in color.
  • Patience and a willingness to learn the specifics of our production process.
  • Availability for at least 4 consecutive hours, with required hours running between 8 AM - 12 PM, based on production needs.
  • Flexibility to work around class schedules, with most work occurring between 9 AM - 5 PM.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role.
