Eco-friendly Valentine’s Day Cards for Your Sweetheart

Sustainability is one of the pillars of Letterpress PLAY, which means we’re constantly in search of unique products crafted by makers who share the same values as us. All the products we sell are either handmade, women-made, BIPOC-made, or eco-friendly.

With Valentine’s Day upon us, we wanted to highlight some of our favorite sustainable Valentine’s Day cards. If one of your goals for 2022 is to be more earth conscious, why not start now?

Letterpress PLAY (women-owned; handmade; eco-friendly)

Hopefully you don’t mind us starting with our own products. Our Valentine’s Day cards are conceived by our founder and creative director, Kyle Hawley. She crafts the cards’ cute sentiments and their design. Next, our print team gets to work printing the cards on an array of letterpresses machines in our Austin-based studio. Here is a set of all of our funny (and charming) valentines cards.

Lucky Bee Press (women-owned; handmade; eco-friendly)

This whimsical print studio was founded in Northern California by graphic designer Laurie Okamura. Through the years, Laurie has collected a number of presses that she uses to print her truly charming greeting cards.

Huckleberry Letterpress (women-owned; handmade; eco-friendly)

Nestled in the rolling hills of Upstate New York, this wife-and-husband-owned studio “strives to create beautiful, funny and sarcastic products, which are designed to speak to a diverse audience.” Each of their products, which includes cards, pencils, and more, are handcrafted by Emily and Justin and are made with raw materials sourced from the United States.

Smudge Ink (women-owned; handmade; eco-friendly)

This creative studio is comprised of illustrators, printers, and wordsmiths with an “inexplicable devotion to snail mail.” All of their “punchy” and “lighthearted” letterpress greeting cards are designed and printed near Boston, Massachusetts.

Inkadinkadoodle (women-owned; handmade; eco-friendly)

This Wisconsin-based letterpress company has been creating “timeless and tasteful paper good inspired by vintage ephemera, antiques, and nature” since 2008. Andrea Jenson’s company features four antique letterpresses and several modern presses, and her studio also moonlights as a retail store.

We hope you enjoy these beautiful, light hearted cards as much as we do, and that you'll consider shopping eco-friendly for your valentine this year!

Hugs and kisses,
Letterpress PLAY
