Letterpress PLAY is a printshop and design studio that strives for sustainability in our practices, supporting community and fostering play for all.
Join us for an afternoon reception celebrating our Posters For A Cause. Hand printed on delicate mulberry paper from our eclectic wood type collection, 100% of the sales from these prints support individual causes for children. A representative from Austin's local charity, Out Youth, will be speaking about their organization, the work that they do, and how you can get involved.
Free & open to the public.
Be regaled with tales of the intersection of feminine power and technological advancement during this evening presentation by Master Printer Veronica Ceci. Learn about the women who changed history via their involvement with the print industry and the workings of the vintage platen presses named after them. Ceci will bring you into the world of those who persisted all while demonstrating the mechanics of antique printing equipment. Attendees will have the opportunity to print their own piece of hand set type art to take with them. Due to the differing historical safety standards of the antique presses being operated, this is an adults only event.
Doors open at 7pm, talk begins promptly at 7:30. Free.
Learn the art of letterpress printing using our table-top platen press. In this two hour workshop, kids will learn a brief history of letterpress and be introduced to color theory. Each student will create several prints of their own design. While prints are drying, participants will gather around the craft table and make a Thaumaframe paper toy perfect for displaying your newly made artwork. Each maker will go home with 5 original prints, a thaumatrope, a thaumaframe, and an upcycled LetterpressPLAY notebook.
